Ethos & Values
Our Vision
At Heckmondwike Primary Academy, we believe that children should feel safe to embrace challenges, learn from their mistakes and have dreams and ambitions. Through a curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of our pupils, we will nurture confident, independent and thoughtful children who are proud of their achievements and prepared to make a positive contribution to society in modern Britain.
Our staff maintain high expectations of pupils, in a positive and engaging learning environment. We develop friendly and supportive relationships with pupils, parents/carers and the wider Heckmondwike community.
We work with parents/carers to encourage their children to achieve their full potential, by reinforcing the aims of the academy and in encouraging self-discipline and good manners. Our parents/carers are a strong voice for the academy in the community, helping our pupils understand the important role they play within the community.
Our Aims
At Heckmondwike, we have six main aims:
- To provide a secure, happy and challenging working environment where pupils are extended to their full potential, praised for their efforts and successes and encouraged when they encounter difficulties.
- To help children develop lively and enquiring minds, giving them the ability to question and reason rationally.
- To ensure provision of a broad and balanced curriculum based upon equal opportunities and high standards in which the intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and cultural development of each individual is nurtured.
- To develop a positive attitude to learning amongst our pupils, setting realistic goals and targets to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- To help our pupils achieve an understanding of moral and religious values and their place in everyday life, within a multi-cultural community.
- To promote excellent relationships within the academy community, encouraging children to play an active part in the local community and to involve the community in the life of the academy.
Our Values
At Heckmondwike, we instil the values of PRIDE in our pupils:
P – Partnership
R – Respect
I – Integrity
D – Determination
E – Excellence
We celebrate PRIDE in everything we do. Pupils are rewarded with Dojo points for showing PRIDE and each week, one pupil is selected in each class to receive a PRIDE certificate in our Celebration Assembly.
